“Healing isn’t something to attain, it is something that is worked on every single day”
Jokingly I sometimes say in class, “healing is a full time job”. We laugh as it warms our hearts with relief to be aware of our own healing needs. Most people spend a significant amount of time and money on health and wellness with expectations we will be healed. Healing isn’t curing and vice versa. The time we spend in modern society sometimes feels like a full time job. However it doesn’t need to be a full time job. The business of healing is the cleansing of toxins and harmful beliefs from the depths of our inner selves. Healing happens from the inside out.
Through yoga, those tiny windows of awareness about the words we choose, the behaviors enacted, identifying our true needs, and desires explains it all with a feeling inside that shouts, “you got it right, ahhhhhh.”.. then peace washes over you. Overtime, these tiny windows of awareness span longer and longer essentially leading to a better understanding of your true self; the good, the bad and the shades of gray. You gain a better understanding into those reactions that occur where the question asked is; what the heck got into me? Followed by a spiraling peril into the deep waters of judgements, then possibly sinking deeper into a swamp where we punish ourselves or worse choose the road of blame inflating our ego and to rise above the negative actions, taking no responsiblity for them. This is fed by holding a belief that you had no control over your actions. This is a false belief and a game the mind plays on us to remain in an unconsciously numb state to avoid our own inappropriate actions, choices and words.
In the thick of things, it’s easier to be numb and blameless but the effects from it are chipping away at the vitality of life force and inner self esteem. It is a heavy burden to carry and ignoring the impact of our actions or our inactions have on our surroundings and loved ones, isolates us from having a loving connection to life and loving relationships. Our energy vibe is tainted and signals people to stay away. Healing is essential to living the fullest life possible and to experience loving, lasting relationships, beginning with ourselves.
In that pivotal moment of meltdown during reactionary “drama”, the unconscious lifts the emotional code buried down deep and in a blink of an eye someone else is in your body flailing about, there is a mechanism that provides us with full control over ourselves. This mechanism can be weakened by self judgement, negative beliefs and placing blame or it can be sharpened to enhance our ability to stand firmly on the ground rooted down to cope and adapt during life’s changes and upsets. This is a choice in front of us, a choice never too late to make, this choice begins your healing journey.
Healing isn’t about being unaffected, or having no emotion at all, which is equally unhealthy as having intense emotion, it’s about grounding, healing our inner selves, small moment by small moment, to remain attached and conscious during lifes difficulties, and coping with situations that aren’t ideal; acceptance and surrendering. Feeling the emotion, addressing the emotion before it grips us and pulls us into the swamp. Once a healing journey begins, turning back isn’t an option and in the beginning it can be daunting, time restrained, and uncomfortable (in some cases, painful). Caring and nurturing yourself is a priority when beginning a healing journey. Once on the road of healing, even though painful at times, the inner peace, calm and awareness to understanding yourself, hands down, is a much better place to be than numb. Turn back? no, a healing journey of self discovery leads to an active, full and healthier lifestyle.
Healing infuses awareness to know yourself (the essence of your true inner self). and awareness creates balance which infuses your life force energy. This enhances coping capabilities to manage energy to maintain an equilibrium,
“The reality is that nobody knows, everyone imagines. When imagination becomes the known experience, it is known as duality or maya. When experience becomes knowledge, it become reality, the Truth, the Sat”. Yogi Bhajan
It is much like standing on a surf board and remaining on your feet when the waves get higher. “Yoga is your surfboard in healing; surfing the ocean of life”.bws Through dedication and commitment to healing, you begin to transform with awareness, clarity, and calm in the mind to achieve that balance. Identifying and understanding your emotional code, lifts you away from self-blame, self-judgement and the notion to be Mr. Nice Guy all the time. If healing becomes a full time or more effort then you’re not healing, this is being in fixing mode. Fixing is not healing. Fixing implies quick, fast, temporary solutions that suppress symptoms and doesn’t address the root cause of our emotions. These are embedded into our unique emotional makeup. Healing takes a lifetime, it’s evolutionary and it’s transformational benefits enable you to be the best authentic self you can be each and every day.
